Real estate links

- There have been plenty of hiccups, but Freddie Mac’s recent U.S. Economic and Housing Market Outlook reports that the housing recover is chugging along.

- Applications for U.S. home loans dipped slightly last week but there was a 0.7 percent rise in purchase applications, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

- Among other findings, Manager of Regional Economics and Housing Finance Policy Ken Fears discovered that the short-lived slide in the housing market seems to have stabilized.

St. Louis links

- It’s hard to imagine the Cardinals getting off to a worse start in the World Series after dropping Game 1 8-1 in Boston.

- Overall, Cardinal success usually equals an economic boom for the area. But some local businesses, like St. Louis favorite Crown Candy, are hurt when the Redbirds make a playoff push.

- Community members are fighting to save the Lewis & Clark Branch Library after a 10-year library facilities plan concluded that the facility is 20 percent too small.
