Real estate links

- With the debt default looming, National Association of Realtors president Gary Thomas warns about the potential impact it could have on the housing recovery.

- There’s been much hand-wringing about a large “shadow” inventory of potential foreclosures threatening to sink the housing market. But Nick Timiraos of the Wall Street Journal reports that the data just doesn’t justify those fears.

- Lending for commercial property loans is up 3.3 percent from this time last year thanks to rising real estate values and improving credit quality.  

St. Louis links

- For the third consecutive season, the St. Louis Cardinals have moved within one win of reaching the World Series. They’ll try to close out their NLCS series with the Los Angeles Dodgers at 3 p.m. today. 

- St. Charles runner Howard Mayes was the subject of an iconic photo from April’s Boston Marathon bombing. Earlier this month his surgery was filmed for a documentary on the attack.
